To run a virus scan on your computer, download a free virus-scanning software, such as AVG Anti-Virus, from the Internet or run a free Internet scan, on your system. Click on the “Scan” option in the left pane and then “Start” to begin scanning your system. Wait for a while till the scan gets over. As soon as the scanning gets over, list of bad files on your system can be displayed on your system.

The virus scanner that you used on your PC will probably have an option to delete the virus and bad files in the free version. You will be asked to pay for the virus scanning software if you use it for deleting files.

However, you can make a list of bad programs and then go to the Windows registry and delete them on your own.

Uninstall the Norton programs on your PC by going to the “Start” menu and select “Control Panel.” Click on the name of a Norton program that you want to remove and then a Windows appears on the screen. Click on the “Add/Remove” or “Change/Remove” button. Proceed by following the directions on the screen to remove the program from the system.

Restart your PC if you get prompts. Your PC might require restart before the changes take effect.

Repeat all the above-mentioned steps for removing every Norton program from your PC. The programs are listed in the alphabetical order in the “Add/Remove” screen, so all Norton programs should be grouped together.

Using the original installation CD or the original download of the software, reinstall the Norton AntiVirus software on your computer. All you have to do is to insert the CD or open the downloaded “setup.exe” file to initiate the installation.

You have successfully restored Norton AntiVirus on your PC, thus assuring enhanced protection against security threats. We recommend you to use only a genuine Norton antivirus installation CD or download the setup file from authentic Symantec website so that you do not face authentication problem at the later stages.
