Wine Library website owned by Gary Vaynerchuks hacked

WineLibrary.com users were sent an e-mail informing that the credit card they used to purchase wine might be in danger. But the company has not disclosed any information as to how many user accounts were hacked.

This matter came into notice in October 2011, when customers started complaining that their credit cards were being misused. The number of complaints started to grow in number during early November. The company took serious measures by removing all customer credit card details by November 11th so that no further information could be acquired by the hackers. After an investigation, reports showed that an IP address from China was used by hackers in the attack.

After this incident, the company has announced that it will no longer store customers’ credit card details on its website. The company announced that it will take security measures by using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol to encrypt data and use better software to avoid such incidents in future.

The company sent out a long e-mail to its customers explaining the situation and what steps they should take to protect their credit cards. The company apologized for this shameful incident and said it is looking carefully into the matter and promised that no such thing will happen again. The company also informed that a new website will be launched to replace the old one and it will be equipped with the best security protocols to protect the website.
