We are at it again! Another intruder disguising to be a security update is at large. For all of us who use Windows 7 as the operating system, this prowler is another source of headache.
The makers of this Trojan-style virus have named it ‘Windows Vulnerabilities Rescuer’. They have made all the efforts in the world to make this virus appear like an antivirus update of Microsoft Security Essentials. However, in reality, once you click on it thinking that it’s a security update, which is essential to safeguard your computer from possible intrusions; this virus will trigger a remote-code execution (RCE) to severely infect your computer.
To deceive the users, the Windows Vulnerabilities Rescuer uses Windows logos in its pretence. Once it accesses the user’s computer, it would flash a message on its computer. The message would read like “Microsoft Security Essentials detected potential threats that might compromise your privacy or damage your computer. Your access to these items may be suspended until you take an action.” Unaware of its severe repercussions, as soon as the victim clicks on it, the attacker gains access to the victim’s computer and infects it.
Therefore, one clear message that goes out to all of you who use Windows as the operating system is that even if any abrupt message pops-up on your computers seeking any action from your end, don’t respond to it without thinking over it. Install and scan your computer with updated antivirus software. For those of us, who are administrators, it is essential to impart correct knowledge to the users about what is genuine and what is fake.
