LulzSec hacked official website of U.S. Senate

In yet another episode, the hacking group known as LulzSec has hacked the official website of U.S. Senate. They were able to get through the server’s directory and file structures, and published a list of directory names from the server. The attack was confirmed by a Senate representative.

The website of the hacking group confirmed its attack through a post,

We don’t like the US government very much. Their boats are weak, their lulz are low, and their sites aren’t very secure. In an attempt to help them fix their issues, we’ve decided to donate additional lulz in the form of owning them some more!

However, Government officials said that the intruders were not able to gain access to users’ information.

“The intruder did not gain access into the Senate computer network and was only able to read and determine the directory structure of the files placed on Senate.gov,” said the Senate’s Office of the Sergeant at Arms.

The officials further said that the server was for public access and that files placed on the server are for public consumption.

On the other side, LulzSec is enjoying their bit and mocked on Senate’s response saying “This is a small, just-for-kicks release of some internal data from Senate.gov—is this an act of war, gentlemen? Problem?”

LulzSec have hacked various other prominent websites, including those of Nintendo, Sony, FBI partner InfraGard Atlanta,  Bethesda Softworks, PBS, and more.
