Online Security has become one of the major and most talked about global issues these days. It is now not just limited to the concerns of businesses and corporations, but to the concerns of complete society as well. Cybercrime is increasing day by day becoming a major concern for the world. It is not just a danger to the businesses now, but also institutions, countries as it also includes online terrorism and other such activities. With the launch of some of the latest cyber technologies such as Cloud computing, Virtualization, mobile devices, Software as a Service (SaaS) and specially Web 2.0, the scope and degree of cybercrime has also increased to great levels.

These online security threats contain malicious content. Some of the common methods of spreading of such malware these days are web searches, fake antivirus warnings and downloaded content. When you search an item, you find content which you think is safe, but is actually not; and with that enters malware in your system.
Second way is when you land on illegitimate webpages, you get fake antivirus warnings, which urge you to click on the link to get rid of the viruses in your system. As soon as you click on the link, you become a victim, as it starts downloading of malicious content to your system. Third way is downloaded content like music, videos, etc. Applets containing malware are attached to music and video files that are made available for free download. When you download and run these files, these applets gets installed to your system.
Dominique Honnay, Director, Emerging Markets and EMEA Distribution, SonicWALL said in the recent IDC IT Security Road-show held in Johannesburg, South Africa, “Network security remains a key concern for businesses. However, the challenge is that network attacks have evolved to the application layer, driven by the growing Web 2.0 trend. Web-based applications offer great communication and productivity benefits, but unfortunately expose the network to a greater level of vulnerabilities and exploitation, Securing and managing applications in this new threat landscape is vital to protect users and businesses from the proliferation of these malicious and targeted attacks,”. Honnay was delivering a presentation on the online security threats faced by the modern enterprise. He also talked about the technology, which can be used to fight these threats and also to maintain productivity.
