There are a lot of services available to protect your smartphones or tablets from getting lost. When something goes awry, it is always advised that you make use of these services and track your device. However, that was not the case with laptops and PCs until now. But with the release of the beta version of Norton Anti-Theft, a new Symantec web service, tracking your lost laptop is also possible.
The program works in a somewhat similar manner as the mobile device location and recovery services available in the market. You need to create your account on the Norton Anti-Theft website to download and install the Norton Anti-Theft client on your laptop. Once you are done, you need to leave the client running on your laptop. If ever your device gets lost or stolen, all you need to do is log in to the website where you will find various recovery features including some very advanced ones as well.

When your stolen laptop is connected to the Internet, Norton Anti-Theft gets activated. It identifies the location of the laptop and sends it on the map. Once the location gets updated on the map, it will help you to identify as to where exactly your laptop is.
Norton Anti-Theft also comes with the Sneak peek feature that takes a picture of your laptop using the system’s webcam and sends you the same. This might help you in identifying the place or the thief.
There is another option, which lets you lock your system remotely. By making use of these features, you can restrict the thief to access your important data and files.
Norton Anti-Theft can also display a custom message on the system’s screen. By using this feature, through the custom message you may provide your contact information. Via the message, you may also announce some reward for someone who intends to return the laptop to you.
Symantec will soon launch the full version of Norton Anti-Theft, which probably would support smartphones and tablets as well. If you want to try the product now for free, then go for the beta version and check it yourself. Maybe you end up ordering one for you when the full version of Norton Anti-Theft gets launched.
