Everday you hear different stories about hackers attacking websites. It has become so common that now we have stopped paying any attention to such news. But companies should take strict measures to avoid such situations because their consumers are affected badly due to this. These days there are millions of users playing online games, leading to companies coming up with many online gaming websites. But the question is – are they secured?

Recently, a gaming website MapleStory, developed and published by South Korean firm Nexon, has been attacked by hackers leading to millions of users account details being exposed. It is estimated that MapleStory has more than 18 million registered users, and according to the investigation more than 13 million users account were hacked.
Nexon has reported this matter to the Korea Communication Commission (KCC) last Friday, after it discovered on Thursday that millions of users’ data, who were playing MapleStory were leaked. According to sources, KCC along with security experts and police are investigating on this issue.
It was a relief to hear from the company that no bank account details were compromised in this attack. Data containing users IDs, passwords, names, and resident registration numbers were leaked. It is also a bit shocking to hear that overseas users were not affected in this attack.
Nexon, one of South Korea’s leading developers of online games, has apologized to its millions of users for the security breach and said that it will take strict measures to upgrade its security system. The company has asked all the users to change their passwords as a precaution to avoid any further damage to their accounts.
