Hackers tweets as Lady Gaga

It’s almost the end of 2011. And with it comes the hack of the year…Lady Gaga who boasts 17 million followers on Twitter, must have been shocked reading this tweet. The tweet read, ”Monsters, I’m giving away FREE iPad2’s to each one of you in the spirit of the holidays :) Go to [LINK] to receive one”. The link (hidden here) took the visitors to a malicious website that asked them to fill some personal details and sign up for the offer and then to tell about the same to others too. Two other such tweets appeared simultaneously that were very soon identified and removed by Lady Gaga’s representatives.

The whole incident was cleared in just a matter of two hours with Lady Gaga tweeting, “Phew! The hacking is over! And just in time. I ‘m am my way to Japan! So excited to spend Xmastime with TokyoMonsters!”.

With this hack, Lady Gaga joins the likes of Obama and Britney Spears whose accounts were compromised too. However this is not the first time Lady Gaga’s account’s security has been compromised. This April some mysterious Spanish tweets started appearing in her news feeds. Lady Gaga tweeted in her style, “Whoever is hacking my Twitter must answer to 10 million monsters and Twitter police. #Don’tMakeMeCallTheApostles”.

The recent malicious tweet on Lady Gaga’s account is weird by all means. Had this tweet been real, Lady Gaga would have had to spend over US$ 8 billion to give away 17 million iPad 2 sets to her fans, if all would have participated. With Lady Gaga tweeting back the fact, we all know now it was a spam. However, this might be a little heartbreaking for some fans who might be anticipating a chance to win an iPad 2. Sorry Guys! Better Luck next time!!
