Security experts have recently found a new type of computer virus that is really very hard to detect and get rid of completely. If this virus somehow manages to intrude your PC, either from the Internet or from some malicious file via the USB, it gets in to the PC’s motherboard and infects the PC whenever it is booted.

Symantec, a famous PC security and antivirus manufacturing company has named this virus Trojan.Mebromi. According to Symantec, Trojan.Mebromi belongs to the rootkit malware category. The virus hides its presence on the infected system and accesses the BIOS settings in the system’s motherboard via a malicious file. After it takes control of the BIOS settings, Trojan.Mebromi installs itself in the system’s master boot record (MBR) and gets executed while the system gets booted up.

Here is where the challenge comes. As Trojan.Mebromi loads itself inside the BIOS and MBR, the antivirus installed in the system has to remove this virus without affecting the motherboard and any settings. Another problem with this virus is that it keeps on executing itself every time the system is booted thus increasing the level of harm done to the system.

Marco Giuliani from the security company Webroot has written, “Even if an antivirus detects and cleans the MBR infection, it will be restored at the next system startup when the malicious BIOS payload would overwrite the MBR code again.”

So, the best way to keep your system safe from such harmful viruses and Trojans is to have a very good and effective all-in-one antivirus software in your PC that detects a virus the moment it is trying to get into the system and immediately blocks it. In case you still do not have a protection, its time you get one immediately.
