Anonymous, the clandestine group of online hackers, is in the news once more. The group claims to have gained access over a number of credit cards that it used to donate for charities such as CARE, Red Cross, and Save the Children. In a further disclosure, it professes of more such actions to follow in synchronization with its master plan. The incident raises serious concerns over security as the credit information so stolen belonged to the clients of Stratfor (also known as Strategic Forecasting, Inc.), a global intelligence agency based in Texas. This certainly does not appear to be a hoax, as some of those targeted have acknowledged of unauthorized transactions on their credit card accounts. One reason the hackers could get through the information is that it was not encrypted by the agency.

Anonymous targets Stratfor

The targeted clientele is said to comprise of patrons from Apple, Miami Police Department, US Air Force, some banks, law-enforcement agencies, defense contractors, and few technology firms. Around 4,000 credit cards, passwords, and residential addresses have been beguiled in the incident. “Tomorrow, we will be dropping another enormous dump on our next target: the entire customer database from an online military and law enforcement supply store,” the Anonymous group said.

The openly mocking attack on Startfor has led the intelligence firm into hibernation and it is reported to be overhauling its website that has been temporarily shut off. Moreover, it is aiding in the ongoing investigation as well. While FBI is busy picking the thorns and gathering clues, Anonymous is raising the heat through its snide tweets on the micro-blogging site. The group of these masked Robin Hoods seems amused with its dominance, hinting at its own proclaim that more belligerent assaults are already in the pipeline.
