What are the major causes of Internet Connection Problems and how to troubleshoot those?

Losing Internet connection and access to essential websites that you regularly visit may hamper your work. The problem with the Internet connection may relate to the ISP that you are using. Connection is too slow

When the Internet connection has turned slow, you need to turn on the MS-DOS prompt to troubleshoot this problem. As you access the MS-DOS Prompt, write ‘ping’ and the domain name of any common site, for example, www.google.com. Get a report that says how many millisecons it takes for the ping to reach destination. A computer connecting to Internet via 56kbps modem connection usually takes 0.3-second (300-ms) or even longer ping to reach destination. However, if it takes any longer than 5,000 ms or 5 seconds points to the problem of slow Internet connection. You need to consult with your ISP to solve the fault with the ISP.

Modem is not getting answers from ISP

Check if the cable of the modem is not connected properly to both the modem which is connected to your PC and the phone line (when you are using external modem device). Next you need to dial the access number for your ISP using a regular telephone. Listen to the data tone, if you do not get any data tone, then you have got wrong access number or else your ISP is down. If you use an internal modem, you need to unplug the power cord from the modem and shut down your PC. Now, plug in the modem and restart the system.
